~ English's misconceptions ~

Some common mistakes that we went through today.


A) "This pair of shoes" is considered singular because we are referring to only 1-pair.



1) That basket of fruits is very expensive.  ( Only 1 basket)

2) This group of students is from Helpfulness 4-4. (Only 1 group)

3) An army of ants is crawling up my table. (Only 1 group)

B) It's is different from its.

It's is a contraction for "it is".

Examples for it's:

1a) It's a very hot day.

      It is a very hot day. 

b) Look! It's climbing up the tree!

    Look:  It is climbing up the tree!

c) It's not my fault that I could not understand Malay.

     It is not my fault that I could not understand Malay.

Examples for its :

2a) My bird had some fruits for its dinner.

  b) The cat scratched the dog using its sharp nails.

  c) Its fur is so soft and shiny after a bath.

It is so sad to see some of the angels getting from bad to worse. :(

Not only do they not copy their corrections properly from the whiteboard, they tend to talk alot and not pay attention when their teacher is explaining.

How I wish these few angels would improve and be more responsible and diligent, instead of spoiling the mood of the whole class whenever Mr Yeo starts scolding them.

Together, let us help these few angels by reminding and guiding them if we see them not doing the right things again ok?  :)
